Greene County School Board Holds Budget Hearing

Posted: Updated:

Greene County schools are looking for ways to deal with loss of funding due to increased costs.  People in Greene County had their first chance to comment on the school's 2013-2014 budget Wednesday night.

The school board said the funding loss came from costs including an increase in the rate the county pays to the Virginia Retirement System.  The superintendent says the meeting was sparsely attended, and that parents, teachers and community members should come to future meetings.

"If there are certain things that they want to see kept in the budget and if there are certain things that they want to see protected going into next year, then it's really important that they come out and share that with the school board," said Greene County Schools Superintendent Dave Jeck.  "The school board needs to hear that, and our school board is very responsive to folks who come out and speak."

Jeck says that attendance will be especially important moving into December, when budget numbers will be more firm.
