The popcorn is hot, soda fountains are flowing and the projector lamps are lit at Charlottesville's newest cinema. Wednesday night, the theater held a grand opening celebration.
The new Regal IMAX Theater at the Shops at Stonefield is open, and a portion of this week's ticket sales are going to good causes.
"We've been raising money for charity," said Russ Nunley with Regal Cinemas. We have some big checks to giveaway to give back to the local community. Why we do that is because going to the movies is like the center of the community, it's a place for people to come together and we want to be part of that community."
NBC29 was a proud sponsor of Tuesday night's event at the theater that benefited the military assistance group "Got Your 6". Monday's proceeds went to the Virginia Film Festival, and Thursday's event will benefit University of Virginia's Madison House.
Wednesday night's grand opening reception was hosted by NBC29's David Rogers.
