C'ville Church & Fire Department Team Up to Provide Sandy Aid

Posted: Updated:

The Charlottesville Fire Department and Calvary Chapel of Charlottesville are teaming up to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The church is collecting donations and will be driving to New Jersey Monday to deliver them to those in need. They will be going to Middletown, New Jersey, an area they say has been devastated by the storm.

The church has six donation drop-off locations. In addition to the Charlottesville Fire House, there are collection points at the Calvary Chapel of Charlottesville on 5th Street, Mack Morris Heating and Air in Ruckersville, Old Dominion Bank in North Garden, Mail Box Express in Palmyra and the Albemarle County Office Building in Charlottesville.

Chad Myhre, the pastor of Calvary Chapel of Charlottesville, said, "This is our way of serving Charlottesville. Charlottesville wants to help, they want to be part of what's going on in New Jersey. We can take your donations, your contributions directly to the people."

The team will need water, flashlights, batteries, diapers of all sizes, formula and wipes. They also need food - anything you could open and eat right away - like granola bars, soup and other canned foods. They need warm winter clothes like gloves, hats, and coats. This weekend the church will also be at several Charlottesville grocery stores collecting donations.
