Charlottesville Dynamic Duo Leads Team to First Playoff Berth In 10 Years

Posted: Updated:

Charlottesville High School football's Rashard Davis and Chris Thurston have been friends since they were born. Most don't know this, but they're cousins.  Their family chemistry under the Friday night lights has folks calling them "The Dynamic Duo."

Rashard Davis said, "He's the best running back in district by far I think. When I'm down, he just holds the ball and runs. He keeps everybody on the same page - he's a leader."

Charlottesville Head Coach Eric Sherry said, "They're difference maker type kids and its not just athletically - they're good to the core young men which I think makes a difference. They don't miss practice, they do the right things in school and they set an example for others to follow."

Their energy on the field helped the Black Knights earn their first playoff berth in 10 years.

Junior running back, Chris Thurston said, "This feels amazing - it feels like we just brought in a new chapter to the Charlottesville High School history."

Davis added, "To prove to everybody that Charlottesville is building their program back up and to show that Charlottesville is a school that's coming from deep holes and building it back up."

They also have a secret tradition before big plays to get amped up.

Thurston said, "I'll be nervous sometimes and he'll be nervous. We've got this thing every game - Do you, like Nike says "Just do it," we have our saying 'Just do you.'"

Davis added, "Before the play maybe we'll run the option or something and we'll be like yo - just do you."

Both say no matter what happens Friday night in their playoff game against Western Albemarle - they hope the Charlottesville football program stays strong.

Davis said, "Have everybody come out on the same page like we did this year build a family as another dynasty."

Thurston added, "We are Black Knight nation,  big Black Knight family."
