CAT Holds 'Fare-FREE Day' for Election Day

Posted: Updated:

If you don't have a way to get to the polls in Charlottesville on Election Day, Charlottesville Area Transportation (CAT) is offering a free bus ride.

CAT has made Tuesday a "Fare-FREE Day", so you can go cast your vote and not worry about getting there and back.

With a high voter turnout expected on Election Day, the city of Charlottesville wants to make it easy for voters to get in and out of polling places.

The free transportation will also help alleviate traffic and parking issues.  There will be at least one bus that goes to each of the polling destinations.

"We want to make sure that everyone who can, has an opportunity to exercise their right to vote," said Charlottesville Director of Communications Miriam Dickler.  "And this will help them get to their polling place, if they don't have a ride or if for some reason they can't get there via car."

All routes are free all day Tuesday.  The city is urging people to take advantage of this opportunity.
