A Charlottesville woman charged with animal cruelty had her first day in court.
Loretta Watkins, 40, is charged with two counts of animal cruelty after police say they found two dogs abandoned and neglected in an apartment. Watkins was appointed an attorney.
Police say they found two dogs on September 17 in a house on Vine Street. A large shepherd had its muzzle wrapped in duct tape. They also found a malnourished poodle that weighed just five pounds.
Watkins will be back in Charlottesville General District Court on December 21.
