UVA QB Switch Up Provides Offensive Explosion

Posted: Updated:

The Virginia football team snapped its 6 game losing streak Saturday, as the Cavaliers thumped N.C. State 33-6 in Raleigh.

UVA's Michael Rocco and Phillip Sims were competing to start at Quarterback all week prior to their win.

After weeks of quarterback controversy during the streak - the 'Hoos came up with a simple solution Saturday- play 'em both.

Sims said, "I don't know if there was a plan but that's what we ended up doing and we just stuck with it...it worked and we just kept doing it."

Head Coach Mike London said, "They're selfless leaders much like our Running backs that rotate they don't care who gets the credit. Or how many touches."

The dynamic duo combined for 446 yards of total offense - but credit their coaches for this back and forth formula.

Rocco said, "I trust our coaches decision making. I trust Phillip. We're pretty close on the sideline. We're able to talk and discuss what's going on on the field."

London added, "our offensive staff put the pieces together to help both Michael and Phillip be successful. Phillip with his legs and Michael with his arms."

While the switch up was a success - the 'hoos are already onto the next one.

Rocco said, "The sky is the limit for our offense when we execute. When we execute its fun because we win games."

London said, "We're pleased with what happened today. We'll celebrate for a few moments and then get ready for our next opponent."

UVA still has a chance to make a bowl game, and will take on Miami next week at noon.
