Family Day at the Virginia Film Festival

Posted: Updated:

Families in Charlottesville hit the red carpet Saturday at the Virginia Film Festival.

Kids outside the Paramount Theater took pictures with "Snow White" before heading inside to catch the 75th anniversary screening of the Disney film.

It was part of the Virginia Film Festival Family Day. Students from the young film academies in Charlottesville and Albemarle County schools have been working on films all semester. On Saturday they got to see their hard work on the big screen.

Mary Dettman, a Young Filmmakers Academy teacher, said, "This is an amazing experience. I think what's the most exciting thing to see is a real shy child step up and sort of blossom in front of the camera. Or show their creativity behind the camera and those are the kids it's really fun to see them strut their stuff."

Kids of all ages also got their faces painted, did arts and crafts, and dressed up for a photo booth. All of the family day events were free.
