Western Albemarle High School Holds Mock Election

Posted: Updated:

Most students at Western Albemarle High School are too young to vote, but they're still getting in on the action.

The seniors were divided into mock parties, and they've been campaigning with pamphlets, flyers and commercials for weeks.  Friday, they held their mock election.  All of the other grades filed into a gym full of campaign signs and seniors trying to sway their votes.

"We're actually going to do the mock election, we're going to get the results to see how it mirrors the actual election come Tuesday, so the kids are very fired up, the students are all so excited and they just feel like they could in their own way make a prediction about what's going to happen on Tuesday," said government teacher Paul Dolenc.

The teachers hope the mock election will help students understand the parties and the voting process.  Students will find out who they elected Wednesday morning and compare it with the real thing.
