Top VA Donor Gives Nearly $1 Million to Super PACs

Posted: Updated:

Super PACs are this year's campaign fundraising powerhouse.  An Albemarle County man is putting his money where his beliefs stand, and he's doing so in a big way.

As the top donor in Virginia, Keswick's Richard Gilliam has donated nearly $1 million to super PACs since October of last year.

"Basically what he can do is he can give an unlimited amount of money to this organization, and they can go and spend it to support causes he believes in," said Geoff Skelley with the University of Virginia Center for Politics.  "In this case, the election of Mitt Romney for president."

Gilliam gave $755,000 to the Karl Rove-founded super PAC "American Crossroads" and $250,000 to "Restore Our Future", a pro-Romney group.
