Playoff-Bound Monticello & R.E. Lee Battle Friday Night
Two of the best high school football teams in the area square off Friday night at Monticello High School, as the Mustangs host R.E. Lee.
Both teams have records of 7-2, both have clinched a playoff spot, and both want a win to get the highest seed possible for the postseason.
"I think it's going to be very intense," says Monticello head coach Rodney Redd. "I think they remind us a lot of ourselves, and vice versa, so I think it's going to be the makings of a pretty good game."
Monticello has averaged almost 50 points per game during their current three-game win streak.
Lee beat Spotswood 13-0 last week, after their four-game win streak was snapped 28-27 at Turner Ashby the week before.
The Mustangs earned a last second win against Lee last year, as Jhalil Mosley tossed a three-yard touchdown to Nathan DiGregorio on the final play of the game to lift Monticello to a 26-24 win.
Friday's game will be senior night for Monticello.
Senior cornerback Denzel Terry says, "I gotta go out there, and give it my all, and leave it on the field, and so do the other seniors, because we don't want to have no 'look-backs' when we're older, and say, 'We should have done this, and we should have done that.'"
The Mustangs and Leemen square off Friday at 7:30 at Monticello High School.
