'Focus on Fluvanna's Future' Reschedules Community Forum

Posted: Updated:

Sandy put a hold on some school budget concerns for a Fluvanna County group. "Focus on Fluvanna's Future" had to reschedule its community forum because of the storm.

The community forum, which was supposed to be a chance for parents to discuss the possible cuts, was originally scheduled to take place on Monday.  Now the group has rescheduled the meeting for this Thursday.

Fluvanna County Schools are facing a projected budget shortfall. Serious budget constraints could lead to school closings, layoffs or four-day weeks. Fluvanna County Schools Superintendent Gena Keller will be in attendance Thursday and available to answer any questions that parents may have about the proposed options to solve the budget problem.

Bill Sullivan with "Focus on Fluvanna's Future" said, "The main objective is to help get the community informed and engaged on what's happening. The fact is the school board has to make the cuts, so now it's a matter of making sure parents and the community understand what those cuts are."

The Fluvanna County School Board has laid out over a dozen options to solve the budget problem, many of which will be discussed during the forum. The public meeting will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the school board office auditorium.  All of the school cuts will go into effect on January 1, 2013.
