The former first lady of Virginia was in the Shenandoah Valley Friday learning about children's programs.
Anne Holton, the wife of Tim Kaine, spent time at the Boys and Girls Club in Waynesboro. Then she visited People Places in Staunton where community-based support is offered to children with emotional challenges. Holton said she wants to hear about what's working and what can be improved upon.
"These families are dealing with so many different challenges. And they are fundamentally dependent on government resources," she said.
Holton is also touring colleges in the commonwealth sharing her husband's ideas to improve education and workforce training. Democrat Tim Kaine is running against fellow former governor Republican George Allen for the United States Senate.
