It's official, the new playground at Tonsler Park is open. A grand opening ceremony was held a short time ago, which included a ribbon cutting. The new playground replaces the wooden one installed back in 1995.
Two different structures were used for the new playscape. One, for children between the ages of 2 and 5. The second, for kids ages 5 through 12.
Benjamin Tonsler's great grand-daughter, Angela Blayton, was also in attendance.
"It's amazing, I didn't realize how extensive it was. You can bring this forward to the young people today. So, they can remember them as well as our children because I have a son too," she said.
City staff began working on the project during the fall of 2011. Tonsler Park is located at 500 Cherry Avenue.
