The Charlottesville High School field hockey team beat Western Albemarle 2-1 in overtime to win the Jefferson District Field Hockey Tournament Championship Thursday night at CHS. Kendall Ballard scored both goals for Charlottesville.
After the game Ballard said, "This is what we work for, this is what we live for, I just couldn't be any happier right now, our team we worked together as a team, we moved the ball around and we got the goals when we needed them."
It is believed to be Charlottesville's first win over WAHS in about a decade. The Knights lost to the Warriors both times this year during the regular season. Western was the top seed in the tournament. Charlottesville was the 2-seed. Alex Brown scored the lone goal for WAHS Thursday.
Charlottesville improves to 13-2 with the win and will play at Kettle Run in the Region II semifinals on Tuesday. Western Albemarle drops to 10-5-2 and will host Fauquier Tuesday in the other Region II semifinal.
