Local Food Hub Hosts 2nd Annual Community Food Awards

A food-focused group celebrated some Charlottesville grown produce Wednesday.  The Local Food Hub hosted its second annual Community Food Awards.

Farmers, businesses and community members gathered to honor those that have made an impact on the Charlottesville food system.  

Several awards were given to people who continue to make the food system thrive:  

  • The Agricultural Endurance Award:  Tim & Sarah Henley of Henley's Orchard
  • Pioneer in the Field Award:  Susan & Scott Hill of Hill Farm Vintage Vegetables
  • Partner Producer of the Year:  Nathan Yoder & family of Shady Lane Family Farm
  • Institutional Leader Award:  Tim Cervelloni of the Abbott Center at Darden School of Business
  • Small Business, Big Impact Award:  Bill Calvani of Rebecca's Natural Food
  • Trailblazer Award:  Trey Holt of St. Anne's – Belfield School
  • Innovation in Agriculture Award:  Michael Clark of Planet Earth Diversified

Emily Manley of the Local Food Hub stated, "We realized that there were just amazing people in the local food scene here in Charlottesville that deserve to be recognized for all their hard work."

The Local Food Hub is in its third year of operation and it strives to put Charlottesville grown produce into public schools, hospitals, senior centers and local retailers.

The event was co-sponsored by EDENS and the Ballyshannon Fund.
