The Blue Ridge football team is now 6-1 on the season after picking up a 37-20 win against Virginia Episcopal School Saturday, thanks in large part to Shawn Steen.
The effort by the Barons senior has earned him this week's award for Falcon Club player of the week.
Steen was presented with the award Tuesday on the Blue Ridge practice fields by Falcon Club member Mark Scott.
Shawn Steen was all over the field for the Barons against the Bishops.
Steen ran for a touchdown on offense.
The senior from Quebec had 4 tackles and 2 interceptions on defense, including one returned for a touchdown.
He also kicked a field goal and made 4 extra points.
Steen says, "I hurt my shoulder in the second quarter and that caused me to not play in the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter. But I stayed on the field defensively and made and impact there, and just did what I had to do."
Steen says the Pick Six was nice, but his first interception was better.
"I went into my safety's zone and helped him out there," says Steen. "Picked that ball off, one hand, diving catch. That one was nice. The second one, the quarterback gave right to me. All I had to do was make my way into that endzone."
