Guadalajara Restaurant Honored with Chuck Lewis Passion Award

Posted: Updated:

The family behind the first authentic Mexican restaurant in Charlottesville is being honored Tuesday night.  The Lopez-Ornelas family will be presented with the first Chuck Lewis Passion Award for their restaurant, Guadalajara.

Forward/Adelante and Celebrate!250 Charlottesville teamed up for the event.  The gathering plans to commemorate the life of Chuck Lewis, one of Charlottesville's leading businessmen.  Lewis died two years ago, so the award is meant to pass on his legacy and honor the efforts of the Guadalajara restaurant.

"They are a very significant presence in our community as well," said Forward/Adelante editor Olga Morse.  "Their level of integrity is amazing and their story, their humble beginnings is very inspiring."

The celebration hopes to showcase diversity at its best.  A flamenco dance and various speakers are scheduled as part of a cultural spotlight that aims to include the community.  The event at CitySpace on the downtown mall goes from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
