If you're interested in starting a program, organization, or community event and not sure how to do it, the Neighborhood Leadership Institute can help.
Organizers are taking applications for the program that's teaching people how to become a leader in their communities.
The Neighborhood Leadership Institute is now in its seventh year. It's a program that provides people who live in Charlottesville and Albemarle County a chance to learn more about their city government.
Those selected for the program meet every other week for a few hours to participate in workshops, projects, and conversations with public officials like the city manager, city counselors and county supervisors.
Usually about 30 people participate. They learn about issues ranging from transportation, to housing, to planning and development, and those who complete the program often go on to serve in the city or county government themselves or start their own programs and events in the area.
"So that they can take this information back to their community and know how to interface with government know how to partner with government, know all the things they do so they can serve their community better," said neighborhood planner Ebony Walden.
The program starts in January and goes until May. Applications are being accepted through December 15th.
The organizers say they're looking for a diverse range of people from all backgrounds and neighborhoods.
