Martha Jefferson Hospital hosted a free breast health screening Saturday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Nearly 60 women came out for a screening. The hospital was able to host the free screenings because of the money they made from this year's Martha's Market and the In the Pink Tennis Tournament.
Demi Runkle, a volunteer, said working at the event is a rewarding experience. "We want to save lives. And as matter as fact, we had a lady come in early this morning and let us know that 10 years ago, she came in for her mammogram here and they spotted a cancer and she said, 'You all saved our lives.'"
Doctors encourage women over the age of 40 to get a mammogram done annually. Martha Jefferson Hospital will host another free screening this winter for women who don't have insurance.
