Covenant Looking For First Win Against STAB

Posted: Updated:

We have full night of high school football on tap Friday night.

One of the most intriguing games kicks off in the afternoon at 3:30pm, as Covenant plays host to cross-town rival St. Anne's-Belfield.

Covenant has never beaten STAB in football, but this could be the year that changes.

Eagles Senior John Meade says, "We're trying to stress to people that this is the senior's last home game, no matter what. This is our last STAB game. It's a homecoming game and senior night. There's a lot of stuff that goes into this game."

Senior quarterback Brady Doyle adds, "If we win, it would be a huge moral booster for us. We need a few more wins to make the playoffs, so this could really give us some good momentum going into the last few games of the season."

Covenant started out winning three of its first four games.

The Eagles have lost two straight, but have shown signs of being a pretty solid team.

St. Anne's-Belfied has struggled this year with a young squad, and haven't won a single game.

The Saints are 0-7 and desperately want to get that first win tomorrow.

The Eagles say they will be incredibly focused.

"It would mean everything to our program," says Meade.  "We've never beaten them. They've always been the big rival we've never beaten. I can't even put into words how much it would mean to our program."

Doyle says, "Everyone has a lot of friends on that team. At the same time, that's our rival, so we're all getting really hyped for this game. This is a new year, we're a new team, and we are very confident going into this game."
