Fatal Car Accident Closes Ivy Road in Albemarle

One woman is dead after a car crash in Albemarle County.  Police say a pickup truck and a car collided around 4:40 Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Ivy Road and Tilman Road.

Authorities say the driver of the car, 79-year-old Virginia Keith, failed to yield the right of way to the pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on Ivy Road.  Keith died at the scene of the crash. 

The driver of the truck was taken to University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Albemarle County Crash Reconstruction Team will continue their investigation, but no charges are pending at this time.

Ivy Road was closed in the area of Tilman Road, Route 676, for about two hours as crews cleared the scene.

The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Tilman Road and Ivy Road.

The victim, Virginia Keith, was stopped at the intersection of Tilman Road and Ivy Road.  While attempting to cross Ivy Road, she failed to yield the right of way to a 2001 F350 pickup truck that was traveling east bound on Ivy Road.

Virginia Keith, 79 years old, died at the scene.  She was a Charlottesville resident. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not factors in this crash.  The Crash Reconstruction Team will continue their investigation but no charges are pending at this time.

This marks the 10th fatal crash in Albemarle County this year. Eight of those were worked by the Albemarle County Crash Reconstruction Team and two have been worked by Virginia State Police.
