Companies and their workers in central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley can save cash by commuting cleaner.
Managers from businesses, including Northrop Grumman and CFA Institute - took part in a RideShare workshop Wednesday called "Don't Miss the Bus to Commuter Tax Breaks."
They learned about tax incentives for both employers and employees who carpool, pay for public transit passes, or telecommute.
Lisa Horanyi, a program manager for RideShare, said, "Where not everyone has access to transit, a lot of people now have wireless internet connection at home, a fast internet connection at home. They might have an office space at home. They may be able to take their cars off the road a few days a week and still be helping the bottom line with their company."
As another incentive, RideShare is giving away $100 prizes this week to commuters who register and log their miles. Click here for more information.
