UVA Women's Basketball Picked to Finish 4th in ACC

The Wahoo women have been picked to finish 4th this season in the ACC.

Virginia Women's Basketball coach, Joanne Boyle is hoping to build off the success she had in her first season last year at Virginia.

Duke was picked to win the conference.

The Cavaliers finished with a record of 25-11 last year, the most wahoo wins in more than a decade, but Virginia still missed the NCAA tournament.

Junior guard, Ataira Franklin is the team's leading returning scorer at 12.4 points per game and was named preseason All-ACC.

Franklin said, "Just the way last year went - it didn't go as expected or planned but were just really excited to grow as a team and let everybody see what we've been working on."

The team has 5 newcomers including 3 freshman who should help give the team a nice scoring boost.

Boyle said, "We're a work in progress when it comes to the offensive end of the floor. You're not gonna walk into the program and be great at both ends. So the offense is just taking us longer. But we've gotta be able to put the ball in the basket. I think there's some people on our team that can do that this year. I mean China can put the ball in the basket, Frankie can, Faith can, so I think we have a little bit more depth."

Boyle added, "To be honest we need to be - and this is a focus of ours this year, we need to get second chance points. Rebounding was our Achilles heal last year and we gotta be able to get some offensive rebounds and that's one of our weakest points and one of the things we're emphasizing this year. We just gotta start getting some easier baskets that way."
