Cavaliers Need To Work On Finishing Drives

Posted: Updated:

Switching starting quarterbacks hasn't led to more wins for the Virginia Cavalier football team.

The 'hoos are now 0-2 with Phillip Sims as the starter but Coach Mike London says Sims will start again this week.

London said, "They need to know that things like this that happen that occur that its just one more step in the process of trying to get this program to where I envision it and where it can be."

Sims understands the pressure and hopes his team will continue to improve. Sims said, "No man has ever gone through life - everybody has to face adversity. Its something that I'm facing, we're facing it as a team and we'll make it through this."

Virginia will be trying to snap a 5 game losing skid when they host Wake Forest.

The Cavaliers fell behind 17-0 in the first quarter to Maryland on Saturday before eventually losing by just a touchdown.

Sims completed less than half of his passes and was sacked five times.

Sims said, "Its very frustrating just as a quarterback scoring points is your job. That is how you stay around. If you don't produce the offense doesn't produce somebody else goes in end of story. So to not be able to score points is very frustrating."

With the 'hoos down by two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Michael Rocco replaced Sims and led the 'hoos on an 81 yard touchdown drive capped off by tight end, Jake McGee's score.

Now at 2-5 overall the Wahoo's have a long-shot at making it to a bowl game.

McGee said they are falling short because they aren't capitalizing on drives. McGee added, "we haven't finished drives as well as we should have. We had a few that were either 3 points or just not touchdowns at all. As an offense our job is to put 7 points on the board. I mean 3 is okay, but we want to score."

Virginia's game against Wake Forest on Saturday will be a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
