It's not often you get to tour a palace, especially in Virginia. But this weekend, visitors to Afton Mountain will have a chance to take a tour fit for a king.
The Swannanoa Palace will be open for tours this weekend and the first weekend of November.
Swannanoa was built in 1912 by a farmer named James Dooley, who modeled his home after the Medici family's palace in Rome.
Laura M. Voss, a tourist visiting the palace, said, "This was just magnificent. This is just great. I had never been here and I love it."
"It really is a wonderful thing that it's open to the public now, that there's such a treasure here that's available for people to see," said Becky Stewart, another tourist.
Tourists can see the house from 11:30 to 5:00 on October 20 and October 21 and November 3 and November 4. Tickets are $6 for adults and free for children.
