Virginia Fall Fire Season Begins Monday

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia foresters are asking residents to use caution when burning outdoors during the state's fall wildfire season.

The season begins Monday and continues through Nov. 30.

The Virginia Department of Forestry says conditions are ripe for wildfires as leaves dry out and fall from trees, humidity levels drop, grasses turn brown and winds increase.

Director of resource protection John Miller says residents should designate alternate escape routes from their homes and neighborhoods because a fire could block their primary routes.
