Blondes and Brunettes Face Off to Tackle Alzheimer's

Posted: Updated: Oct 15, 2012 01:48 AM EDT

Blondes and brunettes faced off Sunday in a fierce football competition to tackle Alzheimer's disease.

A crowd gathered at Charlottesville High School to watch the blonde and brunette teams go head-to-head.   Proceeds from the Charlottesville Young Professionals powderpuff game go to the Alzheimer's Association.

It's a personal cause for many of the players, like Barbara Neel, a brunette player. She said, "My grandmother is living with Alzheimer's right now … and it's just - it's really hard to watch. It's hard for everybody involved it's frustrating for the person who has it and it's heartbreaking for your family."

At game time the players, coaches and volunteers had already raised $8,000 - just $2,000 short of their goal.
