Charlottesville City Council is holding a public hearing Monday night to get your input on how to fill the city treasurer position.
Jennifer Brown retired this month after 19 years on the job; however, her term is set to end in December of 2013.
Currently, the chief deputy treasurer is filling the position. But because the city treasurer is an elected position, City Council has to decide whether a special election will be held or if the circuit court should allow the deputy treasurer to finish out Brown's term until the next election in November of 2013.
Charlottesville City Mayor Satyendra Huja, said, "The idea is that there is already a scheduled election in November 2013, and that it could be that more people would participate also in the election. But if there is a special election, usually not too many people take part in it."
A special election is expected to cost the city more than $30,000.
