Charlottesville Police Investigate Prospect Ave. Shooting

Posted: Updated: Oct 15, 2012 02:14 AM EDT

Charlottesville police suspect an on-going feud led to shooting on Prospect Avenue late Sunday afternoon, sending one man  to the University of Virginia Medical Center with a gunshot wound.

Police say the 24-year-old man was shot in the arm while he was riding on the back of a moped on the 600 block of Prospect Avenue around 3:00.

Investigators on the scene say they believe the shot was fired from a passing car and the victim may have known his shooter. A witness who called 911 reported hearing a popping sound and a squealing noise from a car tire, leading police to believe the shooter was in the car.

The moped wiped out, leaving scuff marks on the pavement.  Investigators found a single bullet shell casing at the scene.

The driver of the moped took the victim to the UVA Medical Center. Police say the gunshot wound was on the man's arm and is not life threatening.

According to investigators, the victim is in a feud with another man who lives in the neighborhood.
