Madison & Monroe Clash On Friday Night

Posted: Updated:

There will be a big rivalry game on the gridiron in the Bull Run District Friday night, as Madison County takes on William Monroe High School.

The NBC 29 Tailgate Party will be there.

This has always been a 'throw-the-records-out-the-window' type of match-up, and Friday night will likely prove to be no different.

The Dragons come into the game with an 0-6 record, and are allowing 59-points per game, but they have beaten the Mountaineers each of the last two seasons.

Madison is 3-3, and are looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat at Clarke County.

The Mountaineer seniors say the losses to WMHS the last two seasons aren't something they easily forget, and they'll be looking to reverse the trend tomorrow night.

Senior linebacker J.P Utz says, "It's always a big game, a big rivalry. We don't like Greene, they don't like us. It's pretty typical."

Senior running back Logan Carpenter adds, "Greene County is a rival, and although they have been getting pounded a lot lately, we really do see them as a tough competitor, because they're going to bring it. They're going to bring everything they have to us, to try to beat us."

The Madison players say they rivalry runs deep.

"My dad tells me, when he was in high school, they always won," says Carpenter, "and for us to come here and be losing lately, it's a big weight on my shoulders right now. I feel like I have some big shoes to fill, and we have to get this done for Madison County. We need this win."

Utz says "We haven't performed well the past two years. We're trying to capitalize on this year, and I really want to win this year. It's my senior year, and I'm looking forward to beating them pretty bad."

Madison County and William Monroe kick off Friday at 7pm.
