LOUISA, Va. (AP) - Concerns about degrading seals have prompted Dominion Virginia Power to shut down a nuclear reactor at its North Anna power plant.
A U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman tells The Richmond Times-Dispatch that the operators of Unit 2 discovered a seal on a reactor coolant pump was degrading. They shut down Unit 2 late Sunday night.
Commission spokesman Joey Ledford says a seal package on another coolant pump also will be replaced while the reactor is shut down.
He says the work could take several days.
North Anna's other reactor, Unit 1, continues to operate at full power.
