The UVA Men's soccer team took down No. 23 High Point 2-1 at Klockner Stadium Tuesday.
Just ten minutes into the game, High Point's Shawn Sloan sent a ball to the far right post and put the Panthers on the scoreboard first.
But the 'hoo's would answer later in the first half.
Following a penalty outside of the 18 - Will Bates sent a penalty kick over the Panther defense and right by the goalie to tie the game 1-1.
Bates said, "Those are tough when your that close to the goal and you have a wall that big to get it over and into the goal. He froze. Glad it went in."
In the 88th minute, Bates would come up big for UVA again. Following a handball in the box, Bates stumped the goalie and score on another penalty kick to help lift the 'Hoos 2-1 over the Panthers.
Bates said, "Its our first good win really and its good going into Wake Forest and we've got a little homestretch here."
UVA takes on Wake Forest Friday night at 7 p.m at Klockner Stadium.
