As temperatures drop, some people begin to worry about how they are going to keep warm this winter. Many turn to state-funded heating assistance to get them through the cold weather.
The city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County will begin accepting applications for their fuel assistance programs Tuesday. The Social Services Fuel Assistance program is designed to help low-income households with their primary heating expenses.
To be eligible for the program there are certain income guidelines that must be met and the household must be responsible for paying the bill. The purpose of the program is not to cover the entire heating bill and it does not help with water or sewage expenses.
Households who qualified for fuel assistance last year should have received their pre-printed applications in the mail by now.
November 9 is the deadline for all applications. Click here to find out if you are eligible and how to apply.
