Romney Campaign Lands in Augusta County

Posted: Updated:

Romney's campaign plane touched down at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Augusta County around 7:20 Sunday evening.

The Republican presidential candidate is returning to the valley after a weekend in another battleground state - Florida - where his speeches drew thousands of supporters.

Just before Romney arrived at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport, a small crowd of about 20 people gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the presidential candidate. Romney got off his plane, waved to the press and supporters, and got into a waiting SUV.

He is going to Lexington to address a crowd at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington for a speech on foreign policy and prioritizing national defense on Monday.

Bradley Burkholder, a Romney supporter waiting at the airport Sunday night, said, "Hopefully I'll get to see him myself… I tried to go to the rally in Fishersville but was turned down cause it was getting too full … the area was getting too packed."

Romney's motorcade was escorted out of the airport by a crew from VMI. Romney's campaign says he will highlight the difference between President Obama's proposed defense cuts and his vision for foreign policy during that speech Monday at VMI. The event begins at 11:20 in VMI's Hall of Valor.
