A walk through Charlottesville is raising awareness about HIV and AIDS in our community. The AIDS Services Group (ASG) kicked off its annual AIDS Walk on the downtown mall Saturday morning.
After performances by drag queens and speeches by the event's organizers, walkers set off for their 5K route. The event is meant to recognize people affected and infected with HIV and AIDS, and raise awareness about resources in the community.
ASG Board member Tom Donohue said, "We've had a phenomenal turnout, we've doubled our numbers from last year…our fundraising, you know we're hoping to hit that $50,000 mark this year."
ASG was only a few thousand dollars short of its goal before the walk Saturday morning. Click here to find out how you can contribute.
