5th District Congressman Robert Hurt is in the midst of a weeklong farm tour. He made a stop at Carter Mountain Orchard in Albemarle County Thursday afternoon.
Last month, Hurt was one of nine Virginia members of Congress to receive the "Friend of the Farm Bureau" award from the American Farm Bureau Federation. He says with such a big farming community in the 5th District, he wants to keep the lines of communication open.
"Please keep in touch with us, because we are working every day we can in Washington to try to make it easier for them to be successful," Hurt said.
Hurt is reaching out to farmers with less than a week until his first debate with his democratic challenger John Douglass. He will finish his tour Friday Southside Virginia.
