The Rivanna River is a lifeline for Charlottesville and Albemarle County, but water conservation organizations say it's a mess. Now one group has started a call to action to clean it up.
Members of the Rivanna Conservation Society are hosting their first ever river makeover event. They're hoping people will take the time to pitch in and clean up the water that flows through our community.
"Well, we depend, literally depend on the river for water supply and beyond that immediate need for humans, the quality of the entire local ecosystem depends on healthy water for plants and animals," said Rivanna Conservation Society board chair Jack Brown.
If rolling up your sleeves to work on the river cleanup isn't appealing, there will also be other activities like fly fishing, canoeing, and public information forums.
The events kick off Saturday at 11 A.M. at various locations around the Rivanna River.
