A new exhibit of paintings at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville is kicking off a cross-cultural artist exchange between Virginia and the African nation of Rwanda.
Art With A Mission founder Emmanuel Nkuranga brought 40 paintings from prominent Rwandan artists to display at McGuffey from October 2 - November 4.
The exhibit came about after UVA surgeons, Dr. Forrest Calland and Dr. Robin Petroze, discovered Nkuranga and his programs teaching art to impoverished and orphaned children in Kigali, Rwanda.
McGuffey has formed Arts With A Mission - Charlottesville to establish an artist exchange between Charlottesville and Rwanda.
First Fridays will celebrate the exhibit's opening reception on October 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thirty percent of sales will benefit Nkuranga's art programs for children in Rwanda.
