WAHS and FUMA Shine on Saturday

Posted: Updated:

After Saturday night, there is no doubt who the top high school football team is in Central Virginia.

It's Western Albemarle.

The Warriors pulled off a dominating 28-0 victory over Monticello Saturday, and are now all alone in first place in the Jefferson District.

Two of Western's four touchdowns were scored by the defense.

The Warriors held Monticello to under 200 yards of total offense.

That defense is tough.

Steven Hearn had an interception return for a touchdown.

Western's Nick Drapanas had three interceptions in the game, running one of them back for a score.

Tuesday he'll officially be named the Falcon Club Player of the Week.

Western will host Powhatan Friday.

In the private school ranks, Fork Union is making a strong argument as the top prep football team in the area.

FUMA beat Valley Forge Military 33-0 on Saturday.

Christian Hackenberg threw three touchdown passes in the victory.

The Blue Devils have won five-straight since losing their season opener.

UUVA commitment Malcolm Cook intercepted two passes in the shutout.

Fork Union plays at St. Christopher's on Friday.
