Hundreds of pet owners in central Virginia commemorated World Rabies Day by getting their pets' shots up to date.
On Sunday, the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA hosted a low-cost rabies vaccine clinic where cats and dogs could get the three-year vaccine for only $10. The SPCA says the event protects pets and helps their owners follow the law.
Beth McPhee with the CASPCA said, "Rabies is very prevalent in Virginia and … the law requires now that animals get their rabies vaccination by the age of 4 months…and for a lot of people it's a little difficult to afford."
Sunday's clinic vaccinated 240 cats and dogs to protect them from rabies.
