Freshman Makenzy Doniak scored in the 88th minute of play, as the #3 Virginia women's soccer team beat #5 Duke 1-0 Sunday at Klöckner Stadium.
"I'm not saying the timing is something that we all want, but we'll take it," says UVA head coach Steve Swanson. "We'll take it in the last two minutes."
The game was the first game between two teams ranked in the Top 5 at Klockner Stadium since 1991.
The goal by Doniak is her team-best 8th of the season, and came off an assist from senior Caroline Miller.
Doniak says, "Duke's been doing well and to be able to shut them out and not allow any goals is really great. To be able to score on them is even better."
Miller adds, "To come back and play like this, it's really good for our team, and it instills a lot of confidence in us again."
Virginia (10-2-1, 3-1-1 ACC) will be back at home Friday, as they host #15 Wake Forest at 7 p.m.
