Motorcycle Rider Injured, Flown to UVA Medical Center

A woman who was thrown off a motorcycle in Shadwell is being treated for serious injuries Saturday night at the University of Virginia Medical Center.   

Rescue crews responded to the 2500 block of Milton Road just before 9:00 p.m. Albemarle County police say the woman was riding on the back of the motorcycle. Officers are not sure whether she was thrown from the bike before it crashed or during the accident.

She was airlifted to UVA with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. The driver of the motorcycle was not hurt. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
