Bridging the Atlantic Ocean and filling holes in the history books - that's what teachers from Virginia and the United Kingdom gathered to do Friday in Charlottesville.
The trans-Atlantic scholars, who traveled in Europe studying the world wars firsthand, presented their research to the group.
Discussions focused on mapping history, working with geography and primary documents, and collaboration.
"Because they have different perspectives both on the content matter and also on how they teach, it's a great ability to share what they're doing and to learn from each other," said Andrew Payne with UK National Archives.
Payne gave the keynote speech. He emphasized the importance of teaching students "living history," not stale stories from history books.
