Paramount Theater Arts Education Program Kicks Off New Season

Posted: Updated:

Students from central Virginia are getting a taste of arts and culture Friday.  Third through 12th grade students headed to the Charlottesville downtown mall for a morning of learning and entertainment.

The Paramount Theater's Arts Education Program kicked off its 2012-2013 season Friday.  Students and teachers watched performer Kevin Reese put on a one-man show filled with art and laughs.

The actor and visual artist uses drawing and painting in his show, before he moves on to his real talent - sculpting.  The show is inspired by mobile sculptor Alexander Calder.

This is the first of nine shows this season.  The Paramount Theater says the program gives students the chance to experience the arts beyond the classroom.

"There's creativity and innovation involved, and they can also tap into their own creativity and multidimensional learning is much more important than just reading from a textbook," Katherine Davis with the Paramount Theater said.

The program has given 82,000 students and teachers the opportunity to see a show at the Paramount Theater since it began in 2004.

The Paramount Theater says that this year the program is expanding and they hope to serve even more students and teachers.  Click here to see this season's schedule.
