Western Albemarle Set to Battle Rival Monticello Friday Night

Posted: Updated:

Monticello battles district rival Western Albemarle in a big early season football game Friday night.   Both teams are undefeated at 4-0.    Monticello has beaten Western 11 of the 15 times they've played all time including twice last season.   The Mustangs beat the Warriors in the regular season last year 50-36 in Crozet and then beat Western in the playoffs at Monticello 42-40.

WAHS linebacker Tommy Mullin says, "its a bad taste in my mouth about last year, both games the play off game especially. I felt like we could've won both games we should've won both games. So there's still a bad taste in my mouth and I hope to come out and come away with a win this time."

Monticello lineman Sam Marshall says, "I'd be mad, I'd be trying to come over here and get a victory, we're going to try and do everything not to let that happen. They're going to give us a game they always do, they always have something up their sleeve for us.:

Monticello running back T.J. Tillery says, "They're definitely going to be coming in here looking for payback, if I were they I'd definitely be coming in her with a purpose and ready to bring it. I've been so riled up all week they've had to calm me down, its really exciting to play Western again, its always going to be a great game between us."

WAHS receiver Daniel Kuzjak says, "With the weapons they have on offense we felt like we had a very good defensive scheme the first two weeks and it kind of fell off these past two weeks but um especially with monticello we have to be able to stop their threats on offense they have a number of them and we gotta come out there defensive minded and really play hard and work together as a team."

Kickoff is at 7:30pm Friday.  NBC29 will be at Monticello at 6pm for the weekly Kroger Tailgate Party.  Highlights will air on the Friday Night Fury during NBC29 news at 11 Friday.
