The outdoor pool at Crozet Park is officially an indoor pool - at least for winter. After raising $200,000 for the project, the Crozet Park Aquatics and Recreation Center inflated a dome above their outdoor pool Thursday.
Thursday morning, around 25 members of the Crozet community came out to help inflate the dome and to get a look at their new indoor pool. It is the first public year-round domed pool in Albemarle County. The entire dome only took 15 minutes to inflate.
"They put a cover on the pool so that people could walk on it. Then they stretched the dome all the way across the pool, and once they did that, they fastened it into the ground, and then they put the inflators on, and it basically just inflated the whole thing up," site director Jessica Maslaney said.
The pool will now be able to offer all of their typical summer services year-round. It will also be the pool for the Western Albemarle High School swim team. The water temperature and air is heated so when it gets cold outside, it will still be toasty for swimmers.
They will be taking safety precautions and partially lowering the dome when there are bad storms. They are hoping to have the pool open for swimmers by October 8.
