Albemarle Looks at Elementary School Overcrowding Issue
Some Albemarle County elementary school students may have to switch schools due to overcrowding.
Twenty community members have been appointed to a redistricting committee to help find solutions. The committee will be split into two subcommittees.
One will focus on enrollment at elementary schools in the western part of the county. The other subcommittee will look at Agnor-Hurt Elementary School, which is 100 students beyond capacity.
Josh Davis of Albemarle County Schools said, "We have the logistics of going outside to a trailer that doesn't have quite the facilities and is not nearly as secure and it's difficult to get to in cold weather."
Later this year, that subcommittee will decide if some students should be transferred to Broadus Wood, Woodbrook or Greer elementary schools.
Any changes would go into effect next school year.
