School lunches all across the commonwealth are getting a fresh makeover. A state law went into effect in July, requiring more fruits and vegetables with every meal. Schools will have to add up to a half a cup more produce.
In Charlottesville, school administrators say they're on top of things. Nutrition Services Coordinator Sandra Vazquez said, "It's…nothing new that we're doing, we're just increasing the serving size more, and we try to get local as much as possible when it's in season and of course with the correct price."
Charlottesville school administrators are working with the University of Virginia Department of Public Health Sciences and the Center for Disease Control to survey students and promote more healthy options.
