Barking dogs and peals of laughter will mingle this weekend in Staunton. "Pets in the Park" kicks off Saturday morning in Gypsy Hill Park. Sponsored by the Augusta Regional SPCA, the event will feature a dog show, cat-photo contest, and the annual walk for the animals.
The festival also brings in vendors who offer something for everyone, no matter how many legs they have.
Augusta SPCA Director Debbie Caywood said, "Whether it's a rescue group of someone that sells things that are animal-related... It's just a great day for the community to come out and support. It's also an educational day to see what other services besides the SPCA are available in our area."
"Pets in the Park" is also the only major fundraiser for the Augusta SPCA each year. It's expected to bring in at least $50,000.
